The Shalem Story
Our Philosophy
"Shalem" is a Hebrew word that means peace, health and perfection of character. Staying true to our name, the lifestyle medicine program we offer works to restore, develop and improve the whole person as we are by design mental, physical and spiritual beings.
Our philosophy is that health is the result of obedience to basic universal health laws that can also be found in the Bible and disease or sickness is the result of breaking these laws. By looking for breaches of these laws one can ascertain the cause of their sickness, correct wrong habits, assist nature in her effort to expel impurities, re-establish right conditions in the body and bring the body back to homeostasis. We also believe and have scientific evidence to conclude that the life of the body is in the blood and that perfect health requires perfect circulation. All of our activities, natural lifestyle interventions, workshops and diet programs serve to improve the health and condition of the blood.
Our Staff
Shalem Health Retreat is a wholistic wellness centre run by a team of Seventh-day Adventist Christians who are passionate about healthy, wholesome living. While this operation is not funded nor run by the church, Seventh-day Adventists have been identified in longevity studies including the famous T. Colin Campbell "China Study" (2004) as a worldwide group of people that live longer, suffer lower rates of lifestyle diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart attacks and more, and are happier as a result of their vegetarian diet, lifestyle choices and spiritual values. These keys to longevity that we will share with you are basic fundamental principles that apply and are accessible to most people.
Most of our staff members are Trained Health Educators that practice simple lifestyle medicine bringing people into obedience with basic laws of health that have proved effective in helping people to regain health.
